It takes an army! I've never had an entourage before! Nor have I ever had my makeup professionally done inside of a horse barn … ha! This fun, little featurette goes behind the scenes of my author photo session for In The Reins. The footage filmed by Alex Manos stars Melanie Elise of Melanie Elise Photography, makeup artist extraordinaire Linh Le, fellow horsewoman Joan Holsten, my hubby and my horse. I couldn’t have done it without them! We captured the perfect photo for the About the Author page of In The Reins! Not so long ago, I faced a several hour delay heading home from a week long business trip. In an attempt to burn some time during my layover in Utah, I wandered the airport concourse and spotted a store that looked unique to the region. It piqued my interest. I had always been attracted to the desert culture.
Once inside, I was drawn to a simply designed yet visually interesting turquoise ring. It seemed to call to me from the showcase. I asked the saleswoman if I could see it. I tried the ring on (it fit perfectly), put it back, and walked away (like I so often do) only to return to the store (yep … couldn’t stop thinking about it) after consuming my lunch. My purchase was on a whim (of course) because the gem was pretty but I felt like there was something deeper drawing me to the turquoise that day. How about some power posing at your next horse show? Imagine striking a Wonder Woman pose prior to your showmanship pattern. Sounds kinda silly right?
Well, consider this … research from both Harvard and Columbia Business Schools show that simply holding your body in an expansive, “high-power” pose for as little as two minutes stimulates heightened levels of testosterone (the hormone linked to power and dominance) and lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. It's a perfect remedy for calming those horse show nerves in the new year! |
