The sequel to In the Reins is coming soon, and I'm updating readers on the characters. Here's the fourth video in my "Meet the Characters from Cowboy Away" series on YouTube. This video introduces Green Briar's newest horse. The horses in the In the Reins series are just as important to the storyline as the leading lady and her mysterious cowboy. Happy watching! Why horses?I will own horses until I take my last breath. I love them that much. Horses give me peace. There is nothing more peaceful to me than the quiet bond between a woman and her horse. I am happiest when I am in the saddle. If you’ve taken a tour of my website or followed me on my Carly Kade Creative Facebook page, you’ll notice that Sissy stands in as Faith in my promotional videos for In the Reins. I do all the marketing for the book myself, so it helps to have my own horse to work with as I film the footage! The inspiration for my writing comes from time spent at the barn and riding my Paint mare, Sissy. After my ride, I often have to scurry to capture the words on the only thing I can find when inspiration suddenly hits me ... torn out insides of my horse's feed bags! I scribble down my thoughts while perched on hay bales listening to the sounds of the horses rustling in their stalls. My history with horses is definitely a reason why I think other horse lovers have been drawn to my books. I know what it feels like to enter a show pen and be nervous. I know what it feels like to feel stuck with my horse’s training. I know what it feels like to swoon over a cute cowboy. Giggle! I hope that sort of authenticity comes through in my writing. I’m a horse owner. I’ve shown competitively most of my life. I write about my lifestyle, not something I’ve researched, but what I do. Beverly Cleary once said, “If you don’t see the book you want on the shelves, write it.” I think I’ve read everything in existence about horses, cowboys and romance. There are a lot of equestrian novels out there focused on dressage or jumping or rodeo, but I haven’t found many that focus on Western pleasure competitive horse showing at breed shows like the Quarter Horse, Paint, Pinto or the Palomino Horse Circuits. I wanted to read a love story themed around the type of horse shows I enjoyed competing in, so I wrote In the Reins and now its sequel, Cowboy Away. The pages of the In the Reins series are filled with a conversation about human-horse connectedness and the special bond between a woman and her horse. This relationship is explored through horse trainer McKennon Kelly, a horse whisperer cowboy, as Devon Brooke learns from him how to train her new Paint mare, Faith.
