Kathy dreamed of living on horse farm as long as she can remember. She didn’t grow up in a horse family, so as a child horse related opportunities often amounted to pony rides at a local fair or even the mechanical horse at the grocery store. Saturday morning TV with Roy Rogers, Fury and My Friend Flicka was the highlight of her week. And of course she coveted any horse book she could get her hands on, Black Beauty, Misty of Chicoteague, The Black Stallion.
At twelve years old she started taking riding lessons and at nineteen she bought her first horse. That experience with Sinbad, a testy bay gelding, was as magical as she expected and she thought she was well on her way to the farm she always dreamed of, but life had other plans. When Kathy found herself a single mom of two and was forced to rehome her heart horse and put her horse farm dream on the shelf.
Horses came back into her life when her daughter started riding at the age of 12 with Merilee Ventura of ByWay Farms, the same trainer that Kathy had ridden with herself all those years ago. About Jump the Moon by Kathy Simmers
Jump the Moon, Kathy’s first children’s book is based on the true story of her daughter (the girl with the long blonde hair) and the unbelievable bond she developed with her pony (Me Too).
Witnessing their story was initially exciting, at times heartbreaking and ultimately one of the most inspiring experiences she has ever known. It was so inspiring in fact that it is why today Kathy lives in North Carolina on the horse farm that she always dreamed of, where she is currently working on her second book. She hopes that by sharing Jump the Moon readers will learn the importance of trusting your heart, following your dreams and never putting limits on what is possible. Coming Soon!
