My spurs are still jingling from my escapades at the fourth annual EQUUS Film Festival in New York City! Over the course of four days, I appeared on a panel and in the Pop-Up Gallery where I conducted book signings along with other literary peeps! So here's a little recap of my Top 5 favorite moments (in no particular order because they were all AMAZING) from the EQUUS FIlm Festival in NYC! 1. Hubby HelpI couldn't have done it without my cowboy! He helped me lug my event goods through the streets of New York City, set up my display space and acted as my videographer during the Equestrian Author Panel, book signings and during the awards ceremony. He captured the spur jingling moment (featured at the end of this post) when I accepted the WINNIE Award for Best Western Fiction for In The Reins. AND he did all this while wearing my brand proudly. Doesn't he look cute in his Carly Kade Creative shirt? 2. Meeting Fellow Equestrian AuthorsI met such fabulous horse people at the EQUUS Film Festival but most of all I loved meeting fellow equestrian authors who I can now call friends. It jingled my spurs to hang out with Cate Folsom, author of Smoke The Donkey, Robin Hutton, New York Times Best Selling Author of horse book Sgt. Reckless and Debbie Roberts-Loucks, daughter of famous horse whisperer Monty Roberts and co-author of Horse Sense for Leaders! We had fun galloping around New York City together and exchanging writing/publishing/marketing tips for horse books during the fest! 3. My First Equestrian Author PanelAs a debut author, it was such an honor to be invited to appear on the Equestrian Authors Panel at the EQUUS Film Festival with fellow horse book authors Susan Cain, Jeremy Enlow, Cate Folsom, Artemis Greenleaf, Connie Johnson Hambley, Robin Hutton & John Royce. The spur jingling introductions were given by Diana De Rosa. 4. Meeting In The Reins ReadersI loved meeting In The Reins readers in the Pop-Up Gallery. I met so many awesome horse enthusiasts, filmmakers, artists and authors at the EQUUS Film Festival. It was so fun to have a table in the gallery to chat with and sign books for readers. I had copies of In The Reins available right there and I loved that some readers brought their own copy for a signature! 5. When In The Reins Won Best Western FictionThis is the video of the EXACT moment I realized that In The Reins had won the EQUUS Film Festival Best Western Fiction Award! Can you believe it? I think my spurs are going to be jingling for months. It has been such an amazing year for me and the book. I thank everyone who has supported this dream of mine and all the readers who have picked up In The Reins! Here's to what happens next for McKennon and Devon. I'm working on finishing up the sequel as we speak! I can't wait. I am so honored that In The Reins is an EQUUS Film Festival WINNIE Award recipient! I met so many amazing fellow authors, filmmakers and readers in New York City. The EQUUS Film Festival is an excellent platform for bringing the storytellers of the horse world together through films, documentaries, videos, art, music and literature.
