I was bouncing in my boots when I learned that my hubby was gifting me a mystery cowgirl kind of getaway in honor of my recent big birthday. I didn’t have a clue what he was up to so I invited my Instagram followers to join us on what I was certain would be a spur jingling journey. They learned where we were going and what we were doing at the same time as I did! It was such a fun adventure and the instagrammers that followed along enjoyed it so much that I wanted to capture the fun for followers of my blog too. It was the perfect getaway for my cowgirl soul! Part One of My Mystery Cowgirl Getaway! In celebration of my 40th birthday, my hubby surprised me with a slew of hints about what we'd be doing! This journey really got my cowgirl creative juices moving and proved to be a terrific research trip for my horse book series too! Here are some of my favorite hubby hints from our getaway. The Surprise! Hubby Hint #1The night before my birthday, my hubby sent me this email telling me what (and that) I should plan to pack! My spurs immediately started jingling when I saw riding jeans and cowgirl boots on his list. Day 1 of My Cowgirl Mystery Birthday Getaway! Hubby Hint #2 In the morning, I learned we weren’t travelling to our mystery destination by land. We were getting there in the air! Hubby Hint #3 When we arrived at the airport, my hubby handed me my boarding pass. Idaho Falls, Idaho? I couldn’t fathom where he was taking me! The best part of this hint was that I love writing in the sky (read my post called, "Sequel Update: Writing in the Sky" for details!) and the little cup of wine did it again! I was able to log 1,000 words in the In The Reins sequel on the 1 hour 30 minute flight of My Cowgirl Mystery Birthday Getaway. Time to work on the sequel is always a gift whether it is my birthday or not. Hubby Hint #4 We landed safely in the land of the potato a.k.a. Idaho and headed to Alamo Rental Car to pick up our wheels for a 2 hour drive to … where? Hubby Hint #5 We arrived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming! The perfect place for my cowgirl soul and a place I told my hubby I always wanted to visit. I snapped these photos during a fun filled day of shopping in town. I was so excited! Day 2 of My Cowgirl Mystery Birthday Getaway!Hubby Hint #6 Today, we ride! I road Toad, a horse named after his puddle jumping. His brother's name is Frog 'cause he does the same thing! It was amazing to ride a horse through streams. I couldn’t stop smiling when my mount stopped to take a long cool drink! Hubby Hint #7 Tomorrow = More RIDIN'. We visited 2 Outfitters in 2 days. I loved being in nature feeling completely at peace & finding that peace on horseback! Hubby Hint #8 Our night definitely called for dancin' boots! So I wore my favorite red ones and we took to burnin' it down on the dance floor doing the boot scootin’ boogie to live country music at the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. At this joint, they don’t have seats ... patrons sit in saddles! Thanks to my husband for knocking my 40th birthday out of the park. I can't wait to see what the next 40+ brings!
