When I was getting ready to publish my first horse book, In the Reins, I was in search of the right photographer who could capture the perfect author photo for the "About the Author" pages in my novels. It was very important to me to work with a local photographer who knew horses as well as the Arizona landscape. Every author needs a good bio photo, and I knew that mine had to include my horse, Sissy, because she was the inspiration for the lead horse in my horse book series. After some research, I contacted Melanie Elise Photography to schedule a photo session. And the rest is history! Melanie captured the perfect pictures during our photo sessions together, and they are now featured in my novels, In the Reins and Cowboy Away. Both books are available on Amazon in paperback & ebook! Since then, Melanie and I have been on a lot of adventures together. Recently, Melanie invited Sissy and me to participate in her Introduction to Equine Photography Workshop. In a just a few hours, attendees learned about appropriate equipment for taking horse photos, shooting in manual, the best lighting, proper striding, how to show off a horse's best features, and more. Melanie even taught a short section on capturing great shots with a cell phone. I’m lucky enough to be a Melanie Elise Model so Sissy and I occasionally get to participate in creative equine photo shoot ideas that Melanie comes up with! I am proud to be featured on Melanie Elise’s equine photography website, too. I made this behind-the-scenes video from our spur jingling time together. A big thank you to Lauren Hyre and Kim Weston for sharing their pictures from the seminar so I could include them in the video. The coolest part was I really got to ride Sissy (bareback!) into the sunset during the workshop. Happy viewing!
