It's true the book you write is the one that changes your life! As we gallop into the New Year, I am taking a moment to celebrate the outcomes of my labor of love! Reflecting back, 2017 was such an amazing year, and I wanted to share some of the cowgirlious highlights of my author journey in one place. There has been a very real magic coursing through all the people who have come together around my books. I am overflowing with gratitude for all the passionate people (especially the readers) who have been on this journey with me. So in no particular order (because they were all incredibly awesome!) I'm listing my favorite spur jingling moments of 2017 ... 1. Feathered Quill Awards in Two CategoriesMy heart was a flutter when I learned In the Reins had earned TWO Feathered Quill Book Awards in the 'Romance' and 'Book featuring Animals - Adult ' categories. "If you love horse stories and are looking for a book to draw you into its pages and not let go until that last page is read, check out In The Reins - you won't be disappointed." - Feathered Quill Book Reviews 2. The Tucson Festival of BooksMy spurs are still jingling from attending the Tucson Festival of Books in Tucson, Arizona! I loved meeting readers, fellow authors and all the book enthusiasts who attended this awesome bookish event! The Tucson Festival of Books is a community-wide celebration of literature. Offered free-of-charge, the Festival exists to improve literacy rates among children and adults. All proceeds for the Festival support local literacy programs. Go behind the scenes at the festival in this fun little video from my appearance in the Author Pavilion. Happy viewing! 3. Interview with Horsemanship RadioI so enjoyed talking with host Debbie Loucks about horses, my book written with horse lovers in mind & its EQUUS Film Festival literary award win. What an honor it was to be interviewed on the same episode of Horsemanship Radio with legendary horseman Monty Roberts. Happy listening! 4. Equestrian Author Spotlight Series SuccessIn 2016, I introduced a new series on my blog. In the Equestrian Author Spotlight Series, I interview and then share the stories of fellow equestrian authors. If you are an author who writes about horses and would like to be spotlighted let me know. I’d be happy to include you! I love hosting these Q&A sessions on my blog with wonderful equine authors who love all things horses & writing just like me. In 2017, I celebrated the first ten authors featured in the series with a recap post! Thank you to all the authors who have given me the gift of their time. It makes my spurs jingle when authors unite. I think it is so important to support each other. We are stronger working together to expose this “niche” genre of ours. Here’s to horse books! 5. Horse & Style Weddings Recommended ReadMy cowgirl heart skipped a beat when I heard In the Reins would be featured in the Wedding Edition of Horse & Style Magazine! It was such an honor to see my equestrian romance in the pages of the publication. A special thank you to Laurie Berglie of Maryland Equestrian and contributor to H&S for seeing In the Reins as an equestrian romance worth featuring as a honeymoon read! 6. BreyerFest at the Kentucky Horse ParkIn 2017, I attended my very FIRST BreyerFest at the Kentucky Horse Park. I loved meeting readers, fellow authors and all the Breyer Model Horse enthusiasts who attended this awesome event for horse lovers! Go behind the scenes at the festival in this fun little video from my cowgirlious adventures in Lexington, Kentucky. Happy viewing! 7. Introducing the Characters from Cowboy AwayIn the sequel to In the Reins, readers start exactly where the first book left off, take a deep dive into the history of the Green Briar gang, meet some new characters, and follow the enigmatic Quarter Horse trainer McKennon Kelly into his tumultuous past. These video shorts are character sneak peeks from my "Meet the Characters from Cowboy Away" playlist on YouTube. I've compiled them in a single blog post for easy viewing. Enjoy! 8. Video: Unwrapping Chrome MagazineA spur jingling SPECIAL delivery! It was so fun to unwrap the hot-off-the-press Winter edition of Chrome Magazine with my Paint Horse, Sissy. Virtual version here: http://apha.com/chrome-magazine/culture/tell-it-to-my-heart/ "Very honored to have been assigned a feature on Carly Kade for Chrome, and I’m chomping at the bit to read the sequel to In the Reins. Thank you to the Paint Horse Journal staff for your trust in me again this year. If you haven’t read Carly’s work, I’m not going to lie - I dragged my feet about reading it last year because it was a romance. Little did I know I’d stay up until 2 AM to finish one night! She’s that good and you’ll love the characters, both human and horse." 9. New Release Cowboy Away, the In the Reins SequelIt made me so proud to announce the paperback and eBook release of Cowboy Away, the second book in the In the Reins horse book series. Cowboy Away is the sequel to the EQUUS Film Festival Best Western Fiction Literary Award winner & two-time Feathered Quill Book Award recipient, In the Reins. "Sequels can be difficult to write, but not for Carly Kade. Cowboy Away is fantastic and without a doubt one of the best sequels I have ever read,” said Laurie Berglie of Maryland Equestrian Lifestyle Guide. “This follow-up to In the Reins brings McKennon’s and Devon’s story full circle, yet leaves you hungry for more! I very highly recommend this equestrian romance!" 10. A BIG THANK YOU to cowgirl Sammy Roberts for sharing this gorgeous pic. Isn't she cute snuggling up with my book & her beautiful horse, Luka? I love hearing from you! ❤️ Here are some early reader comments about Cowboy Away! "Carly Kade hits another home run with her sequel to In The Reins. As much as I enjoyed the first book, I like this one even more. She strikes the perfect balance between making her characters human and revealing their flaws, while still allowing us to love them and root for their success. I loved the backstory she developed for McKennon - he's even sexier in this book than he was in the original." - Amazon Reader Review "I just ordered Cowboy Away. Since it’s way too cold to ride ... I’ve been huddled under the covers staying warm by reading your smoldering plot line." - In the Reins Reader comment via Instagram "Couldn't put it down. Was pulled in by the moving love story. Smooth transitions from past to present story lines. I could feel the pain, love, anger and hope in the main characters Can't wait to read the next book." - Goodreads Reader Review I'm Ready for the New Year!I'm ready for 2018! And blasting out a new book. My spurs are jingling because I'm going to bring readers PART THREE of the In the Reins series this year. Yeehaw! What a cowgirlious year 2017 was. I appreciate everyone who has already bought a copy or helped spread the word on Cowboy Away, the In the Reins sequel. These tiny beautiful gestures help a dream get the kick start it needs. Thank you for giving mine its chance. Please support a dreamer and purchase your copy (if you haven't already) from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, like my Carly Kade Creative FB page, or simply leave a little review behind when you are through.
