McKennon and Devon's story continues. Time to break out the bubbly! I'm proud to share with readers that the sequel to In the Reins is finished. The manuscript to the second book in the In the Reins series is complete. Here's what comes next ...
I'm celebrating the first ten authors featured in my Equestrian Author Spotlight series with a recap post! Thank you to all the authors who have given me the gift of their time. It makes my spurs jingle when authors unite. I’ve learned so much from other authors and appreciate how unique each of our writing journeys is. I think it is so important to support each other and share knowledge among us. We are stronger working together to expose this “niche” genre of ours. Here’s to horse books!
Here's a recap of the first TEN interviews in case you missed one. Happy reading!
In recent years, the self-publishing industry has exploded and new tools for self-publishing have removed barriers for authors who prefer to go it alone, I am one of them. Equestrian fiction authors have legendarily been told that their books (with an equine twist) are too niche. I don't agree.
My goal was to write a story with an honest depiction of the human-horse bond while at the same time giving readers the experience of falling in love with the characters of my book. After some extensive research, I decided to self-publish my first novel and skip the conversation about my book being too specialized to market.
In this post, I share a list of books that have been priceless to me as I started out on my journey as a self-published author. I continue to reference them as I ready to release the sequel to In the Reins. I believe one must GIVE TO GROW so I hope this list of spur jingling books on self-publishing will inspire and help other self-published authors navigate the awesome (and sometimes choppy) waters of self-publishing.
My spurs are still jingling from attending the Tucson Festival of Books in Tucson, Arizona! I loved meeting readers, fellow authors and all the book enthusiasts who attended this awesome bookish event! The Tucson Festival of Books is a community-wide celebration of literature. Offered free-of-charge, the Festival exists to improve literacy rates among children and adults. All proceeds for the Festival support local literacy programs. Go behind the scenes at the festival in this fun little video from my appearance in the Author Pavilion. Happy Viewing!
In this tenth Equestrian Author Spotlight, I talk with Linda Ballou. We discuss the best topics on earth ... writing, books and horses! In the interview, you'll find out that Linda gets to take horse treks around the globe and write about her experiences, hear why she loves being a writer, and if you are an aspiring author (or even an established one) Linda offers some solid tips on how to enjoy the ride. P.S, Your heart will melt over the stories behind the horses that inspired The Cowgirl Jumped Over the Moon.

In this ninth spotlight edition, I talk with Tobi Lopez Taylor. She's a fellow equestrian author and American Horse Publications member. We discuss the best topics on earth ... writing, books and horses! In the interview, you'll learn about Tobi's favorite horse breed (Arabians), why she thinks good editing is worth the cost, and her views on traditional publishing vs. self-publishing. (P.S. she's done both.) Happy reading!
I am so honored to be the recipient of two Silver Medals for my equestrian fiction book, In The Reins, from the Feathered Quill Annual Writer’s Contest!
My goal was to write a story with an honest depiction of the human-horse bond while at the same time giving readers the experience of falling in love with the characters of my book.
Winning Feathered Quill Awards in both the ‘Romance’ and the ‘Adult Fiction featuring Animals’ categories really validates that I’ve accomplished that with the book.
Equestrian reviewers have unanimously praised the novel:
Nothing jingles my spurs more than a good romance about horses involving a handsome leading man especially if he's a swoon-worthy cowboy! So since we are in the month of love, I thought I'd share six of my favorite works of fiction. These horse books for adults offer up a good dose of cowboy romance and plenty of horsey co-stars. Saddle up for some romantic reads you'll want to rope this Valentine's Day!
For the final post in my three part series on equine photography and equine photo shoots, I thought I'd get a little silly! The truth is photo shoots with horses aren't always glamorous so I'm sharing some funny shots from my photo sessions with Melanie Elise Photography. Melanie always makes me laugh and as you will see my horse, Sissy, can be a little silly too. I hope this post gives you a giggle and makes your spurs jingle. There's even an opportunity for you to caption a few. Enjoy!
I am one happy cowgirl. My recent desert equine photo session with Melanie Elise Photography completely captured the immense love I feel for my horse and the passion I have for the Western lifestyle. Now comes the tough part ... choosing which photograph to use for my author biography page in the upcoming sequel to my book for horse lovers, In The Reins.
Readers - Would you help me choose?
You've found the perfect equestrian photographer and you've booked a photo session for you and your horse! You are excited (finally you'll have those perfect pictures of your partnership!) and terrified (Oh no! What if they don't turn out well?) so what do you do? Don't worry! In this post, I'll share tips and tactics for you and your horse as you prepare for your own equine photo shoot!
In this eighth spotlight edition, I talk with fellow equestrian fiction author Laura Wolfe. We discuss the best topics on earth ... writing, books and horses! I just know riders and writers alike will love the message behind her favorite motivational quote. Are you thinking about publishing your own piece of equestrian fiction? You'll glean insight from Laura as she shares the advice she'd give herself if she could go back in time before publishing her first book. I love that she jots her ideas on napkins! I do that too ... smile. Happy reading!
Happy New Year! I couldn't think of a better way to ring in 2017 than by partnering with the Arizona Paint Horse Club for their Copper Country Paint-O-Rama Horse Show at Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona. I donated signed books as an Arizona Equine Author (and Paint Horse lover) for giveaway in the western riding classes and I made an appearance to chat with and sign copies of the EQUUS Film Festival award winner for Best Western Fiction and Amazon Equestrian Bestseller, In The Reins, right at the show! It was so much fun. I made a little video recap of this New Year's Day book signing during the horse show. Happy Viewing!
My spurs are still jingling from my escapades at the fourth annual EQUUS Film Festival in New York City! Over the course of four days, I appeared on a panel and in the Pop-Up Gallery where I conducted book signings along with other literary peeps! So here's a little recap of my Top 5 favorite moments (in no particular order because they were all AMAZING) from the EQUUS FIlm Festival in NYC!

In this seventh spotlight edition, I talk with fellow equestrian author Ellen Feld. We discuss the best topics on earth ... writing, books and horses! I am honored to feature Ellen as a part of this series because she has written TEN horse books AND Breyer made a model of one of her horse book characters ... OMG! I think fellow authors will appreciate her response to how she structures her writing schedule! Hint: It's very unstructured! A lot of you may be saying, "Phew! I thought I was the only one." I think I can hear the sighs of relief out there! Happy reading!
